Product Description

Protime's Digital Earth Fault relay monitors the current flowing through the circuit continuously through secondary of CT / CBCT which is in the current path. When current signal goes out of the range selected , the relay status will change .The relay checks CT/CBCT for its healthiness first & then starts monitoring fault current. The relays are provided with time delays . The C. T./CBCT is connected in earth fault current path. For e. g. Cable connected between Alternator neutral &ground, or Neutral of the circuit, or if CBCT is used it is connected to pass all 3/4 wires to pass through it to measure fault current. Digital EFR has a facility for user to program AUTO/MANUAL RESET and NORMAL/FAIL SAFE TRIPPING of relays. Also it has connectivity of RS232/485 as an additional option.

Robust Earth Fault Detection

Engineered with core-balance CT measuring input, the N96-DEFR ensures accurate detection of earth faults, helping to prevent equipment damage and downtime. The adjustable current range and operate time allow for tailored protection based on specific panel requirements.

User-Friendly Operation and Display

A bright 7-segment digital display, intuitive LED indication for trip status, and accessible manual or automatic reset add to operator convenience. Flush or panel mounting options cater to diverse installation needs.

Safety and Durability Features

Flame-retardant ABS casing, IP20 ingress protection (front), and compliance with IS/IEC 60255 ensure dependable performance and operator safety. The relay boasts a mechanical life span exceeding 100,000 operations, delivering lasting value for critical protection.

FAQ's of Digital Earth Fault Relays N96-DEFR:

Q: How does the N96-DEFR Digital Earth Fault Relay detect earth faults?

A: The relay uses a core-balance current transformer (CT) as its measuring input, enabling precise detection of earth leakage currents. When the set threshold (between 0.05A and 5A) is exceeded, the device promptly trips to prevent further faults.

Q: What is the process for resetting the relay after a trip?

A: After a fault condition and trip, the N96-DEFR relay can be reset either manually using a front-panel button or automatically, as configured by the user. Indicator LEDs provide clear status information to guide the reset process.

Q: Where can the N96-DEFR relay be installed within an electrical panel?

A: The relay is designed for flush or panel mounting, typically positioned at the front of electrical control panels for easy access and visibility. Rear panel screw terminals simplify wiring during installation.

Q: What are the key benefits of using a microprocessor-based earth fault relay like this one?

A: Microprocessor-based relays provide enhanced accuracy, quicker response times, and programmable settings. The N96-DEFR also offers a wide current range, sensitive adjustable trip time, and reliable digital readout.

Q: When should the adjustable operate time be changed?

A: Adjust the relay's operate time (20-500 ms) to suit application-specific coordination and selectivity requirements. Shorter times respond rapidly to faults, while longer times can help coordinate with upstream devices.

Q: What makes the N96-DEFR suitable for harsh environments?

A: Its enclosure is made from flame-retardant ABS plastic with a front IP20 rating, ensuring safety. The relay operates reliably within temperatures of -10C to +55C and resists dielectric voltages up to 2 kV, enhancing durability in demanding environments.

Q: What standard does the N96-DEFR comply with, and why is this important?

A: The device is manufactured in compliance with IS/IEC 60255, which ensures that it meets international standards for protection relays, contributing to consistent, reliable, and safe operation in electrical systems.
